Leatherstocking Region of Upstate New York
No matter what you call our region, Otsego County is in the center of New York. We are close to everything already going on in the state’s entertainment industry. It is 175 miles from New York City to Oneonta, and other southern parts of the county. The thriving film industries in Albany and Syracuse are even closer. Eastern Otsego County is an hour from the Albany airport, closer if you are in the west suburbs of the Capital District. Western Otsego County is about an hour from the CNY Film Hub in East Syracuse.
Most of Otsego County is in the foothills of the northern Catskill Mountains. Oneonta, our one city, is known as the city of the hills, and also as the gateway of the Catskills. Northern Otsego slopes down into the Mohawk River Valley. On the other side of the Mohawk, the gigantic Adirondacks begin. Although Otsego is too far east to be part of the Finger Lakes Region, we have two lakes that look like fingers anyway, Otsego Lake and Canadarago Lake. In Cooperstown, at the bottom of Otsego Lake, is the headwaters of the Susquehanna River, which cuts through the southwestern part of the county, including Oneonta.
Oneonta and the southern edge of the county are connected by U.S. Interstate 88, which goes from Albany to Binghamton. The northern edge of the county is connected to Albany, Syracuse and the Finger Lakes by Scenic Route 20. Utica/Rome and Binghamton are short drives away as well.
Film COOP is dedicated to bringing film industry production to Cooperstown, Oneonta, Otsego County and the greater Leatherstocking region in order to build a lasting film industry in the area.
